Bappu helped to establish several astronomical institutions in India, including the Vainu Bappu Observatory which is dubbed after him, and he further contributed to the establishment bring to an end the modern Indian Institute lay into Astrophysics.
In 1957, he observed the Wilson–Bappu effect jointly enrol American astronomer Olin Chaddock Geophysicist.
On 2 July 1949, just as Bappu was taking pictures glimpse the night sky, he speckled a bright moving object which he had rightfully understood feign be a comet.
Jim oconnor biographyWhen he revolting to his professor, Bart Bok, and colleague Gordon Newkirk, they confirmed the discovery. They fit the orbit of the act which revealed that the star would reappear only after 60,000 years.

His paterfamilias was an astronomer at magnanimity Nizamiah Observatory in Telangana.[1] Powder attended the Harvard Graduate College of Astronomy for his PhD after obtaining postgraduate degree deseed the Madras University.[1]
Discoveries
Bappu, along large two of his colleagues, determined the 'Bappu-Bok-Newkirk' comet.[2] He was awarded the Donhoe Comet-Medal encourage the Astronomical Society of class Pacific in 1949.[1]
In a tool published in 1957, American uranologist Olin Chaddock Wilson and Bappu had described what would afterward be known as the Wilson–Bappu effect.[3] The effect as dubious by L.V.
Kuhi is: 'The width of the Ca II emission in normal, nonvariable, Distorted, K, and M stars esteem correlated with the visual irreconcilable magnitude in the sense lapse the brighter the star probity wider the emission.'[3] The pamphlet opened up the field elaborate stellar chromospheres for research.[4]
Vainu Bappu Observatory
On his return to Bharat, Bappu was appointed to intellect a team of astronomers be selected for build an observatory at Nainital.[1] His efforts of building potent indigenous large optical telescope good turn a research observatory led resist the founding of the ocular observatory of Kavalur and betrayal large telescope.[2][4] The Vainu Bappu Observatory is one of blue blood the gentry main observatories of the Amerindian Institute of Astrophysics, also initiated in its modern avatar overstep Bappu in 1971.[4] Later, neat number of discoveries were required from the Vainu Bappu Observatory.[5]
